Public Relations Practice & Skillset (Week 1)

Yesterday I gave you an insight into my class in Digital Technologies For Marketing. Today I'd like to introduce to Public Relations. When asked to pick my central module at the end of my first year, I decided to choose PR.

"Why?"

I decided to study Public Relations for a variety of reasons. If you ask anyone in PR what working within the industry is like, 9 times out of 10 they will say "every day is different". I often fall victim to the "I get bored easily" state of mind and like facing new challenges. I like that PR offers a wide variety of tasks to do, from crafting press releases resembling a compelling news story, cultivating relationships with journalists and other media correspondents, brainstorming new campaign ideas and much, much more.

Today was my introductory class into "Public Relations Practice & Skillset" which is due to be taught in turn by Dr. Bill Nichols and Bernard Carey for the remainder of the academic year.
Bill currently specialises in consultancy management, strategic marketing, PR reputation and relationships and more, he has also been the Managing Director and Chairman of his co-founded agency; Whiteoaks PR. With extensive experience under his belt, I look forward to working alongside Bill for the remainder of the year, find out more about the Public Relations industry and hear first hand from such an experience PR professional. Bernard Carey is also the MD of Marlin Consulting where he advises on corporate and communications strategy and reputation management as well as a key visiting lecturer at Bucks New University.
